Psychological assessment
Assessment can help explain how a person thinks, learns, feels, and functions in everyday life, turning that understanding into useful next steps.
01
Learning & school
Children, adolescents, and adults
A psychoeducational assessment explores learning, thinking, attention, and academic skills.
It may be helpful when someone is having persistent difficulty with reading, writing, mathematics, attention, organization, or keeping up with academic expectations. It can identify learning disabilities, clarify ADHD or other contributing factors, and document the supports that may be useful at school, post-secondary education, or work.
02
Brain & cognition
Children, adolescents, adults, and older adults
A neuropsychological assessment examines how brain functioning relates to thinking, behaviour, emotions, and daily life.
It may be recommended when there is a neurological, medical, developmental, or other condition that could affect cognition. The assessment is tailored to the referral question and may examine attention, memory, language, visual-spatial skills, executive functioning, academic skills, and emotional functioning.
03
Later-life cognition
Older adults and their families
Changes in memory or thinking can have many possible causes. Careful assessment can help clarify what may be happening.
Neuropsychological assessment may be helpful when there are concerns involving memory, thinking, decision-making, or changes in everyday functioning. Findings can contribute to diagnostic clarification where mild cognitive impairment or dementia may be suspected, while also considering mood, health, sleep, and other factors that may affect cognition.
The goal is not simply to assign a label. It is to identify strengths and needs, support planning, and provide clear recommendations for the person, family, and care team.
04
Identity & understanding
Children, adolescents, adults, and older adults
An autism assessment can offer clarity, self-understanding, and a clearer picture of support needs.
The process explores developmental history, social communication, sensory experiences, routines, interests, and patterns of thinking and behaviour. Assessment is neuro-affirming and attentive to the many ways autism can present across ages, identities, and life experiences.
Autism assessment may be completed on its own or combined with psychoeducational, neuropsychological, ADHD, or mental health assessment when a broader understanding would be helpful.
05
Diagnosis & clarity
Children, adolescents, adults, and older adults
A focused assessment can help make sense of longstanding patterns or overlapping mental health concerns.
These assessments may help clarify ADHD and mental health diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, OCD, or trauma-related conditions. They typically include clinical interviews, standardized questionnaires, review of relevant documentation, and in-person testing when indicated.
The process is collaborative and respectful, with a focus on helping you understand your strengths, challenges, and support needs.
